Tom Strachota serves as Chief Executive Officer for Dairyland Seed, a family owned seed company started by Tom's grandfather in 1907.
Tom joined his father Orville in 1976, and served as director of research until 1981. He served as Executive Vice-President since 1985. In 1994 Tom became CEO, helping to lead the company's research and marketing efforts, along with brothers Steve, who serves as President, and John, who serves as Vice-President of Quality Assurance. Today, Dairyland Seed spends 15 percent of the company's annual revenues on research, more than twice the industry average.
Tom has been active in several leadership roles for the American Seed Trade Association, serving as Regional Vice-President and as a member of the Board of Directors. He is past President of the Western Seed Association. He has also served on the National Alfalfa Variety Review Board and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Seed Research Foundation.
Tom is currently a member of the Board of Visitors for CALS (College of Agriculture and Life Science) of the University of Wisconsin in addition to serving as President of the Board of Directors for the Threshold Foundation in West Bend, WI. In 1999 he received the Friend of Agronomy Award from the University of Wisconsin. In 2002 he received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst & Young for Technology in Wisconsin.
Tom holds a B.A. in marketing from the University of Notre Dame and a MBA from The Ohio State University. He is married with four children and resides in West Bend, Wisconsin.
