Hunt Wiley is Research Director for Dairyland Seed Co's plant breeding programs in soybeans, alfalfa and corn. Hunt took on this position in February, 1998, while maintaining the soybean breeding program at the Otterbein, IN station.

In March of 2005, Hunt was promoted to a position on Dairyland's Executive Management Committee. As a member of Dairyland's Executive Committee Wiley will be involved in Dairyland's monthly review of financials as well as periodic review of various key management and strategic issues.

Wiley has been an employee of Dairyland Seed for over 20 years. He initially began his career as a Soybean Research Assistant, eventually taking on full soybean plant breeder responsibilities. Wiley began his career at Dairyland's southern Wisconsin research station near Clinton in Rock County. In 1985 Wiley established Dairyland's Corn Belt Research facility near Gibson City, Illinois. In 1990, Wiley established Dairyland's Indiana research facility near Otterbein.

Drs. Paul Sun and Bill Campbell promoted Hunt to Soybean Breeder for later soybean maturities in the early 80s where most of his work was based in western Illinois.

In 1985, Hunt established the Gibson City research station of Dairyland Seed Co - a permanent commitment to the development of fuller season soybean varieties and corn hybrids.

In 1990, an additional station was needed in Indiana. Hunt started this research effort near Lafayette at that time and now is the soybean breeder for the new facility at Otterbein, a station that opened in the spring of 1999.

Wiley has served in the role of Director of Research for Dairyland Seed since 1999. In this capacity he carries the responsibility for overseeing all budget activities and administrative tasks for Dairyland's five research locations and its 12 plant breeders.

As a soybean breeder, Hunt has a commitment to the efficient and effective development of adapted soybean varieties that meet the needs of Dairyland's customers and that will make the best contribution to the future of the crop and its producers. Hunt has been responsible for the release of 38 Dairyland DSR soybean varieties such as DSR197, 228, 272, 297, 301, 302, 312, 321, 333, 338, 357 and 373.

As research director his same philosophy applies - Dairyland's contribution to agriculture and to its customers will be through effective use of resources toward genetic gain in its three crop areas. His goal is to focus plant breeding goals on the targets that maximize benefit to Dairyland's customers.

He is the author of a number of Dairyland soybean patents and also serves as the Secretary for American Seed Trade Association's (ASTA) prestigious Soybean Division.
